Hagbah – Raising the Torah #2 (Rockford RH Day 2)

Current bid: $54.00

  • Following the Torah-reading of the second Torah, the Torah scroll is raised (Hagbah) for all to see the text that was read.
  • Lifting the Torah is a great honour. Our sources teach that the person who lifts the Torah raises not just the scroll, but brings an elevation to himself and all those who were called up to the Torah.
  • The person who lifts the Torah will also stand at the bimah during the time of the sounding of the shofar. If you wish, you could partner with someone to purchase this honour and one could lift the Torah while the other will hold it during the time of listening to the shofar.
  • Hagbah could be done by a Kohen, Levi or Yisrael that is capable of lifting the Torah up high.
